As we enter this time of Winter Solstice & Rebirth, we are reminded that our inner Goddess Venus. is beginning her approximate 18 ½ month journey into the underworld. Then, she will return with her energies of Libra and knowledge of balanced equal partnership. Her astrological journey offers us an opportunity to be in equal partnership with ourselves, our relations, and with humanity.
But this awareness of equal partnership and right relationship with our World doesn’t happen somewhere “out there.” It begins here. It begins now. It begins with our relationship to ourselves and our true hearts.
Recently, here in Atlanta, my son and I attended one of Elton John's last concerts. This event was a 67th birthday gift from my son, Will. Previously, I had never seen Elton John in concert - and we had floor seats - so it was awesome!
Elton performed against a backdrop of images chosen to represent images of his music and life. He spoke into his life experience as he proceeded from one song to another. Now that he is 71, and in the Autumn of his life, he is choosing to make a change. In the years to come, he will spend more time with his family and work to address issues of poverty in the World.
As a young man, he was skinny and shy, but still a music prodigy full of the awesome creativity that is so loved today. He shared messages of the inner Soul that can only come from the knowing Heart. Then, as his musical talents progressed, he worked with a musical partner who could write lyrics. Elton would streamline those lyrics into musical accompaniments that bring balance to the Soul. Not surprisingly, much of his music is about relationship with one's heart and soul moving through life itself.
He struggled with his relationship with himself as he navigated his way through stardom and the conflict that fame brings. At one point, he recounted that he had lost all his dignity to drugs and alcohol and forgotten Gratitude for life itself.
The best thing, he said, was to come to Atlanta for rehab. This choice led him to understand who he really was, and to share his tremendous wealth to help eradicate the worldwide AIDs epidemic. Hundreds of millions have been donated for this cause with total love from his heart. Through his relationship with himself, he sought truth from within of who he really is, made choices to be that person, and shared this exceptionality with the world – not only through his music, but through donations to help uplift humanity without judgment or exception.
For decades, Elton John’s music and energy have poured out Love and Gratitude from his Heart to all of us in the electric atmosphere that is beyond description. On this special night with my son, I felt graced to have been present for an unforgettable musical experience. For me, the evening exemplified what it meant to dwell in Universal Love and Light in the present moment in time & space.
This Solstice, may each of us celebrate the creative outward expression of self-knowledge that the Sun's energy generates in each of us, whether male or female. As we celebrate the rebirth of the Sun/Son, let us also reverently celebrate the balance of Power for Humanity as a Whole. As this new cycle begins, may each day allowing us to heal the wounds of separation, fear, and dominance, as we, too, learn to dwell in Light and Love, in this time and space.
