Even as I write this, women in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and other states throughout the country have gathered to protest horrifying legislation against women’s autonomy being passed here in the United States. Too often, crime rates also soar along with temperatures. In addition to petty theft and similar transgressions, we are likely to witness our government’s complicity in other crimes: against women, against humanity, against voters, against the environment… the list goes on. The situation is increasingly dire.
Heat, anger and anguish can make it difficult to find the calm place within. That’s why radical self-care is the first line of defense against these onslaughts. Actively engaging with the element of water is crucial to women in the weeks ahead as our ability to hope, love, and dwell in peace is challenged at every turn. Remember, water surrounds and protects us in the sacred spaces of the Mother. From the emotional space of water, like lotus blossoms, we understand our personal power requires firmament, ground under our feet, a safe space to grow, and faces lifted to the Sky.
Here are some ideas about how to engage with water as the days heat up, both literally and metaphorically.
- Conduct a water ceremony whether indoors or outdoors. You can do this by the moons, or anytime your spirit needs to acknowledge the balancing element of water due to feelings of being overheated in any capacity.
- In Nature: Travel to a sacred place where you engage deeply with the element of water. Call in sacred space. Go into meditation, then gather natural materials, such as leaves, flowers, or vines, into which you set your prayers. Chant or sing or drum for the water, then set your offering into the running stream or waves with gratitude.
Here is a water chant that you may wish to use to connect with the power of water: Born of Water
At home: If you are in a place where working with water outdoors is unavailable to you, perform the same ritual with a bowl or tub of warm water, adding fresh flowers and herbs, healing salts, or oils, then soaking your feet or body in the water while engaging in meditation. Towel your feet gently in gratitude, for your soul and soles are connected. Complete your ritual by nurturing your feet with an aromatherapy massage and soft cotton socks and moisturizing your skin.
A perfect composition for this ritual is “Water Dragon.” This piece is a Celtic harpist’s meditation, the uplifting story of a rare sea creature and the bond of deep friendship shared with a human, reminding us to open our hearts to love.
There are many, many health benefits to the drinking of water . As much as 80% of our body is water. The percentage is the brain is closer to 90%. Undoubtedly, water is important in our physical way of being in the world. Our bodies are alkaline by design. Acid is produced by the stomach to aid in digestion: however, other than the stomach, no body part should be overly acidic.
Water is the most essential nutrient involved in every function of the trillion of cells in the body. Because it is so important, I became a licensed distributor of Enagic water, a method of preparing water for optimum wellness that was developed in Japan. Though I’m a proponent for good quality water, you do not have to purchase fancy enriched water to benefit from its nurturance. Simple tap water prepared with intention and sipped with a slice of fresh lime is a great place to start each morning and continue throughout the day.
Remember, when we drink deeply of water, we commit to action from a place of self-love.
Dr. Emoto’s research into the resonance of water bears this out. You can hear him in an interview “The Magick of Water.” The video is a bit quirky, but the content is very good. If you try the suggested experiment, I would like to know how it turns out.
Receive the peace, clarity and wisdom water offers.
From a place of deep resonance, water offers peace, clarity and hope in the face of disaster or despair; it carries our weight (increasing weight loss) and removes gravity from our situations (hydration lightens our mental loads, reverses aging, and decreases risk of serious illness).
In times of great stress, you may also consider adding lavender-sage or other herbal teas to water and setting it the sun, allowing Nature herself to prepare the nurturance you need.
Water transforms the constancy of change.
Water requires earth in order to take shape. Its currency and power lie in its ability to shift dynamics in any landscape. When used positively, media and money today work in much the same way as water. If we align with the currency of water, we can more readily work with its nature to change outcomes in our beleaguered world.
Ultimately, water asks us to wash away or let go of that which does not serve our highest good. As the old power structures are dismantled and the flaming hot summer turns to the embers of autumn, remember there is now space for something new to come in.
That is the healing balm of hope that water offers if we are open to receive its wisdom.
